The Heart of Auschwitz

Directed by Carl Leblanc
2010    85m
A filmmaker goes on a search to discover how a beautiful hand made birthday book came to be within the walls of a concentration camp, who its makers were, and how it came to survive the horrors of war and decades after to end up in the Holocaust memorial in Montreal. This feature documentary is the story of the authors of the book, a book made in the shape of a heart and given on December 12, 1944 to celebrate the 20th birthday of Fania, a prisoner in Auschwitz. It contains the wishes of its authors who made it at the risk of losing their lives. In the heart of evil, they committed a crime of humanity. In his attempt to find the authors, the filmmaker tries to bring the women's beautiful gesture back to life.
